Mental Mutterings (100th Post)

Never Stop Learning

Well….here we are…..my 100th post. Let the celebration commence.  Can’t believe there’s actually 100 posts worth of stuff floating about in the rented hall between my ears, but there it is.  Now before you begin drinking heavily, loading your weapons, preparing the bonfire, or merely sighing heavily while rolling your eyes, I have a couple of things I’d like to share with you.

As you may, or may not, know, I enjoy things that cause my mind to spark, the synapses to synapt, and stir me to think.  Thus, I have unearthed a couple of quotes for the occasion:

“There are some things you learn best in calm, and some in storms.” – Willa Cather

How true this is!  The storms of life, while treacherous, uncomfortable, and generally a nuisance, have much to teach us once we get past the stress and tension (anger and ticked offness).  Yet it is in these moments that we learn if we are open to such.

“We would accomplish many more things if we did not think of them as impossible.” – Vince Lombardi

Again, lots of truth in this little nugget.  How many times have we looked at something and decided that attempting it would be fruitless because it was “impossible”?  Now, I do realize this perspective does not apply to everyone and that there are some who refuse to view anything as impossible (good for you), so please feel free to skip this one and keep moving (and we’re walking……we’re walking…..).

“How vain it is to sit down to write when you have not stood up to live.” – Henry David Thoreau

We have a story.  Each of us has a tale to tell, because we each share our story with each moment we’re breathing.  However, some choose to live their story (writing it as they go) and some have decided not to live at all (spending their time thinking “if only….”).  We only get the one go ’round on this rock, live or don’t….your choice.

“The thing about the future is that it happens one day at a time.” – Dean Acheson

You can’t live tomorrow yet.  You can’t live yesterday ever again.  You CAN live today……soooooooo……are you?

See?  Relatively painless and rather dull is my 100th post.  Perhaps the brain has run out of inspiration or perhaps just gassing up for another go.  We’ll see as we go along.

  1. Never dull, NoZ!! Where’s the cake? We need to celebrate………………..

    • Ignore the lick tracks, I have this “thing” for frosting. But since there’s liquor in the mix (or is that what’s in the cups?) it’s all good!

See? I actually wore a tie for the occasion. Granted nothing else, but the tie is a nice touch, methinks.

      • Oh…I JUST KNEW you were the other twin…..it’s the FROSTING NOT THE CAKE!!!!!!!!!!!!

        On a softer note….your 100th is…bitchin’.

      • There was cake? I just took several cans of frosting and shaped a cake. Grab a spoon or a finger and have a swipe.
        :D

  2. Win! Well done :-D Jillian and I will drink a celebratory box of wine on your behalf …L

  3. only a hundred posts? geez, i must ramble way too much as i have something like 230 or so.

i am happy to say that i do live each day for that day. i used to be a control freak and have to be in control of everything for weeks ahead, now, heck, i couldnt tell you what appointments i have coming in this afternoon let alone my surgeries for tomorrow. its a very great way to live life!

    • What can I say? I’m a guy, which means I’m a little slow. :)

“The reason for time is so that everything doesn’t happen to us all at once.” – Albert Einstein

It’s a tough lesson to learn, living each day as it comes, but well worth it. Much more relaxed. :D
